Re: Interesting findings on the internet
So bored and drunk after an extremely profitable couple of days "digging people out of the shit thanks to Crowdstrike" I am cruising YouTube and find that Chief Furby Mutilator actually produces slightly decent music

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
This was a problem for early Apple Watch users as well. The alu alloy they used had a high nickel content. I couldn't wear one. They changed it around S6 or so as they did with their laptops finally. I dissolve them with my sweat instead now. Yeah, the nickel makes more contribution to chloride ion...

Re: Tektronix 475
The 475's are noisy as hell fully opened up. It was a regret of one of the designers if I remember reading it correctly.
Still respectable scopes though!

Re: Wouldn't happen with an ASR33
Not even surprised. The keyboards I kill least are the chiclet ones which are low travel. Both the Cherry SX and Apple Magic keyboards seem to last the longest (12-18 months each). I usually kill the switches not the keytops though. If they are cherry switches, then you can get replacement switches...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
I've always found stainless steel watches cause slight skin irritation after a time. I haven't noticed the stainless steel has been even slightly corroded, although there must have been some chemical action. Surgical grade stainless steel is hardly expensive when you consider the amount used in a w...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
So are my Citizen watches, but I would never like to put them to the test, but a proper true diver's watch, well that's different. Not really. Depends to what standards they comply with or is it just marketing. Your other point from the earlier post is quite frankly wrong. Treating a device with re...

Re: Tektronix 2215A
Well technically he's got a whole estate named after him (old PO research station converted to flats) Well the CV188 was a voltage reference yes, but a crap one. The datasheet specifies the noise limits which are at 100V output with no more than 100mV measured with a selective level meter between 50...

Some corrections here... Firstly, they aren't glued in. It's double sided tape like 3M contact strips and it's dead easy to get out. You just pull the strip and they come right out. As for sealed phones, I'd rather have them. They are pretty heavily bomb proof these days and get a lot of abuse inclu...

Re: Tektronix 2215A
I actually went to TNMOC and saw that first hand back in 2019. Doesn't seem like that long ago but it's half a decade already. Very impressive bit of equipment that and on the day it was actually operational. Certainly agree with the recognition of Tommy Flowers On that, one of his... Screenshot 202...

Yeah, I realise its way better than a tent, but equally Morthoe is way better than Iceland. I used to long distance lorry driving for a while, sleeping in the cab long before proper sleeper cabs were a thing and I used a sleeping bag as well, but I was still bleeding cold in the winter months. Slee...

I have a very nice Rab down sleeping bag and merino base layer. I'm good to about -20oC. I was actually running pretty hot!Specmaster wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 11:49 pm @bd139 I bet it was bloody cold in that van at night, it doesn't seem to have any insulation anywhere.

Yes looked it up. That's a bit sad but that's change for you. Added it to the list of things to go and see when I have F-road capability. Character building is spending two weeks in a tent in Central Asia then two weeks in a van in Iceland with a psychotherapist. Neither a gale or impending armaged...

Re: Tektronix 2215A
Ok so this one finally got some attention today after my Mouser order was finally fulfilled. The mains filter and X2 capacitors previously indicated were swapped out with exactly the same parts but considerably less than 40 years old. This was trouble free as expected. The HV divider resistors were ...

(I too had problems, until I enabled cookies) I've uploaded photos to the post this time. Resized them. Cookies still required but at least not so many horrible ones. Image quality will suffer as a result. And a tarmac path. Looks like there might have been a erosion and a rockfall blocking the pat...

Impressive photos. A lot has changed! I had to stick these ones in imgur because they broke the forum. Your first photo reshot in 2023 :). Now with railings of course. I wouldn't want to drive anywhere interesting in Iceland: too dangerous. Well, it was in '84 and '90, but they appear to have sanitised the place somewhat since then - safety barriers by large drops FFS. Dangerous: being in a large 4WD coach, fording a river to get to the Þórsmörk campsite, and bei...

I'd forgotten you'd been to Iceland. Azores sounds different and IIRC there are some interesting features. Are there any opportunities for impromptu island hopping? I certainly enjoy that in the Adriatic and Cyclades. I'd watch out for the humidity (and "wet bulb" temperature), and how mu...
