Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

I hate it when I'm sick during vacation time. I did recently discover that under UK law, you can claim back the holiday days, and book them as sick days instead. Obviously this is only viable if you get full sick pay (I do), with no waiting period

Re: Fluke 8600A

When they wanted to make them well, they did. My 8300A's both are within a few LSDs of my 8840A, which agrees with my Keithley 2000, 2015THD, and late Agilent 34401A. Not to mention that all my Fluke handhelds agree in a similar way, from the 8060A to the 289. The 8000A really does seem to be an ab...

Re: Fluke 8600A

This has me wondering whether I should open one of my 8800A's to see if it also has dubious main power switching. I do know all my other Fluke mains powered gear is better wrt separation.

Re: Fluke 8000A: makes me doubt my high opinions of Fluke DMMs

Or the earlier voltmeter with a digital readout, the 893A. Still my only meter that will read 1kV while taking zero current. None of the normal 0.1mA at 1kV crap :) Perhaps they were different companies, with rebadged low-end scopes, or equivalent to the Tek/Telequipment divide. Is that a null mete...

Re: Fluke 8000A: makes me doubt my high opinions of Fluke DMMs

My other Flukes are stunningly good, much more so than I would have believed. When I get one I expect to have replace an electrolytic and/or clean a switch. If that is necessary, thereafter they are still spot on. Researching it further on the WWW, the 8000A seems to be a particularly crappy model....

Re: Fluke 8000A: makes me doubt my high opinions of Fluke DMMs

Funnily enough I just mentioned my 8000A in Discord in relation to fitting some new NiCd D cells. Naturally Chris wanted me to set fire to it instead, but I prefer to try Med's mod EDIT: Just occured to me to observe that the 8125A which I have more interest in resurrecting the battery option in, i...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Anyone bought wafer switches lately? Had a look at some today for work (I've plenty of stock for personal use) and was shocked at the prices. £30-50 per wafer and £50-60 for the mechanism  That's 5 to 10 times what the were last time I looked. Seriously considering a board full of DPCO relay...

Nixies? What are those? I haven't got any device with numitron/minitron displays. No, I don't want cockpit instruments nor petrol pumps, thank you very much. They do seem quite difficult to find. This thing is a real oddball, no manufacturers mark, probably an internal special or something. The tri...

I'll be having to carefully not damage the bloody pins myself, soon enough; bought a R5 9600X on sale, will probably go for a Gigabyte mb with the B850 chipset

These are British roads, they aren't long and straight, for the most part, where you could hit cruise control and doze off. Our roads are very narrow by comparison, and demand constant attention, especially in remote areas like that. If it were a breeze to drive there and back, I'd have it myself.

Re: Post a picture of a cat

So what was the outcome, new motherboard and processor? I take it that you were building a new computer so the motherboard was at fault. I think that they could have made the die of the processor larger and used the same pins that they used on earlier processors which had stood the test of time? No...

It quenches the arc by removing heat, and also there's a chemical reaction making the metal-filler fused product highly resistive.

All modern HRC fuses have some sort of filler for arc quenching. It shouldn't be sand: https://www.electricaltechnology.org/20 ... types.html
