Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
From what I know of the Soviet defence sector, the persistence of the things is because they had regulatory requirement to be able to be self-sufficient as a nation and they had a lot of stock left lying around. On top of that the cost was much lower than newer technology. Suitable meme cJpvQY1.jpe...

Re: Solartron 7150 Plus
Just did my 7150 a couple of weeks back. I bought a new filter from Mouser which was fine. They sell new ones. Yes they aren't short of £30 but it's that or burn the house down so I figured it was a good trade off. I did use the genuine correct HP LED parts, which are still sold by Broadcom now (!)...

I used to have an office just the other side of the river, in Queen Street but never found the time to visit the Clink, shame.

The Russians captured the low-end functional market for several types of items in that era, because the stuff was cheap and solid. Anybody remember Zenit SLR cameras? Yes, I do, I had one for many years (it was a Dixons Prinz badged one, poorly done, a plastic badge stuck over the Zenit logo, but i...

So bored and drunk after an extremely profitable couple of days "digging people out of the shit thanks to Crowdstrike" This is interesting, a bit over my head to sort it out, but if this what he is saying is correct, then once you know what to look for then it should be easy to resolve. I...

Not even surprised. The keyboards I kill least are the chiclet ones which are low travel. Both the Cherry SX and Apple Magic keyboards seem to last the longest (12-18 months each). I usually kill the switches not the keytops though. If they are cherry switches, then you can get replacement switches...

I am much more worried aboot a watch being exposed to dwagon-sweat than I am a little mostly-inert water while swimming or showering. mnem stainless steel... often isn't. True, dwagon-sweat and normal sweat is salty. Stainless Steel as in Citizen watches most certainly is stainless steel unless it'...

So are my Citizen watches, but I would never like to put them to the test, but a proper true diver's watch, well that's different. Not really. Depends to what standards they comply with or is it just marketing. Your other point from the earlier post is quite frankly wrong. Treating a device with re...

I've seen some weird things. My parents 1850 house had its mains cable emerge in the centre of the property. The next owners discovered it was a 3 phase supply! The round-pin 13 amp wall sockets were all disconnected; just as well since the vulcanised rubber insulation had disintegrated. Their prev...

My Fitbit Versas (Gurrgle/Android) are water-resistant and advertised as safe for full-immersion/swimming safe to 30 meters; newer models are advertised the same to 50 meters, having a "swimming mode" which engages automatically by means of a barometric sensor. I know this because I've ha...

I have one of those Chinese alternative make keyboards using Cherry type "red" switches. I have had it now approx 10 years, backlit cost only £20 and apart from some liquid damage eating away some of the PCB via's which I painstakingly patched, it has been a good keyboard, beats Microsoft,...

I've had equipment where tants looked as if they had exploded but hadn't done any impact damage. I've seen them glow red hot on a few occasions I've heard the odd report of tants exploding and the remains embedding themselves in ceilings. I once heard a tale of an electrolytic exploding and embeddi...

Some corrections here... Firstly, they aren't glued in. It's double sided tape like 3M contact strips and it's dead easy to get out. You just pull the strip and they come right out. As for sealed phones, I'd rather have them. They are pretty heavily bomb proof these days and get a lot of abuse incl...

Thats why I love the lower spec and also the older type of phones as they often have easily popped off back covers and replaceable batteries like many Samsung phones do, just unclip the back with your fingernail, lift out the battery and pop a new in, snap on the back cover and you're good to go aga...

@bd139 I bet it was bloody cold in that van at night, it doesn't seem to have any insulation anywhere. Neither do tents; that's what sleeping bags are for. The van ought to be capable of keeping a howling gale out better than a tent. I remember camping with my daughter in a howling gale at a cliff ...

The Ohms did initially calibrate well but every once in a while it goes wacko. How far out does it go when its wacko? It might a good idea to give the input stages to the ohms a good thorough cleaning with some Isopropyl just to make sure you don't have any tracking etc going on in that area. I alm...
