Re: Interesting findings on the internet
I bought the radio series on six CDs on the same day I bought my first CD player. The original radio series was by far the best and the television version was a severe disappointment for the reasons you mentioned. I didn't like the TV Marvin either. No idea what Marvin should have looked like, but ...

Re: Interesting findings on the internet
I loved the radio plays, and the TV show... Loved the radio show; the aural and mental pictures are unrivalled. Disappointed with the TV show. The graphics were superb, but distracted from the pictures. Zaphod's animatronic second head was laughable. Liked Ken Cambell's stage play. He was appropria...

Re: Interesting findings on the internet
I've discovered a version of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" in early Middle English. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHspDQZKvwg&list=RDDHspDQZKvwg&start_radio=1 I find it fascinating and hypnotically lyrical. Not better than the original but it stands in its own right. Amusin...

Re: Interesting findings on the internet
Do you have a book shelf next to your toilet? No; my books aren't allowed in rooms having plumbing. Quite right too :) I've just had another browse (p209), "The above formula is a sentence representing, of course, the commutativity of addition." Of course. When I looked at it, it reminded...

Re: Interesting findings on the internet
A quick browse was summarised by, "I'm glad I didn't pay full price for this". There are a few interesting things in there, but the author is too keen to show how clever he is. I would have a hard time arguing against that. There is interesting stuff there, but some of it is as penetrable...

Re: Interesting findings on the internet
Have you read the classic "Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid" ?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6del%2C_Escher%2C_Bach Copy arrived today with a thump. It isn't a book I could read from end-to-end: too detailed, convoluted (deliberately!), and abstruse (chosen style, difficu...

Re: Post a picture of a cat
Our cats are the only domesticated mammal that isn't "domesticated". Case in point. About a month ago one evening I came into the kitchen and found Harley laying on the floor next to a dead mouse. Harley is an indoor cat and has never seen a mouse and in the 2.5 years we lived here we've ...

I remember school chemistry lessons, which repeatedly avoided discussions of how catalysts work.
In the succeeding decades the reason teachers avoided that subject have become clearer.

I didn't step through it, but if it's real, then that cat moved pretty quickly. Mind you, they do. As for the "Blue Peter" clip, thank you for finding that. Presenters were made of sterner stuff than they are today. All hail Valerie Singleton! And as for John Noakes climbing Nelson's Colu...

But if you look closely, the cat is magically flying head first immediately after take-off; I think it's been fiddled. Stepping through it using /usr/bin/gifview, frames 20: on cushion, eye visible 21: on cushion 22: moving blur mostly invisible 23: legs pointing backwards, head/shoulders moving in...

Re: Post a picture of a cat
On the subject of cats (albeit large ones), I had breakfast at "The Shack" https://www.communityad.co.uk/exclusives/100-years-shack-cafe-hook/ on Saturday. There was a poster above our table telling of a little history. Apparently, the owners of The Shack also ran a fairground where one o...

I'm glad it has bought a little pleasure into this hard life! I dislike animal cruelty, but came to the same conclusion as MED w.r.t. landing on its feet. I was a little concerned that cat lovers would find it cruel, and thought about my caption for a while. Animate gifs : youtoob == haiku : poems. ...

Re: TEK 485
Here's one of the functional 485's on top of a 2235. The later series of portable TEK scopes tend to be much easier to service with the advent of LSI circuitry. Those 465/475/485's were still packed with discrete components. IMHO the 4[6,7,8]x semiconductors and ICs are all pretty similar. Sometime...
