Re: Post a picture of a cat

Last night Harley got a crazy case of the 'Zoomies". Running at top speed back and forth and room to room like a maniac with a wild howl. One of his zooms knocked over our 4.5 foot Christmas tree. :o Blondie was not amused. Harley resistant (note I did not say PROOF ) tree mounting sug...

Re: Post a picture of a cat

Seasonal cat picture. cat and tree.jpg Ain't that the truth. Harley has already broken several. Arh, yes, but he's still a young kitten at heart, give him a couple of years and that will be a thing of the past. Exactly! Once he's got some experience, he'll start knocking the whole tree down...

Arrange some support blocks and stand it on its rear end with the plug in standing upright? If you had a lazy Susan that would let you access both sides easily. The challenge would be preventing Harley from knocking it over...

others here disagree......but I have always really liked the look of those dot LEDs. the 8640b locked to a rubidium standard is my go to sig generator for anything under 500 Mhz. Of course you would, as do I - they're the closest thing LED-wise to the display of a nixie tube! https://photos.smugmug...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

I did see a Polyskop shown doing something not very impressive, at the back of one of the stalls for £50. It looked very big and heavy. I'd guess it was some description of spectrum analyser. I'd heard of the name as one of the bits of kit used for setting up the filters in RA17s although that one ...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

As for EEVBlog, do you and the others here frequent it still? I haven't looked at it since the big blowup other than spot reading the occasional thread that comes up in Google results for equipment I've looked up. Like you, I will occasionally land there after a web search, and have now and then ex...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Nice haul - those cabinets are very useful. Were you able to reconfigure those acdc electronics supplies to work on 120 V? They came from a Silent Key up in New Hampshire. He'd been a UHF TV station guy, I suspect they came from a transmitter. I'm a pack rat; he made me look like a rank amateur! -Pat

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

I've seen two versions of that counter, the classic one with the nixie tube display and a later version with an LED readout. I'm kind of curious when Hewlett Packard redesigned the display section of the machine. I'm also curious in general, when did the manufacture of equipment with nixie tube dis...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Some of the choices of some of the discontinuations and retained products strike me as a bit strange. The whole U1272/3/3AX line got discontinued but they kept both the U125x and U128x lines of multimeters. I was under the impression that the U1282A was the replacement for the U1252/3 but they've k...

I wonder how many times cats have gotten the blame for things they've had no involvement with? I know mine got blamed for a number of things that I later found out he wasn't responsible for. https://teanonymous.com/f1/download/file.php?mode=view&id=2251 mnem dogs come when they're called; cats take a message and maybe they'll get back to you. Surprisingly, Ghost (my former feral street cat) apparently never got the memo about belly rubs - she rolls over and loves them. https://phot...

Ok so this is now repaired and not drifting. As suspected the voltage amplifier opamp was wonky. It was replaced with a TI UA741CP which is just what I happened to have lying around. I'll calibrate it another day but it's delivering the rated current properly now anyway The culprit... IMG_0851.jpeg...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Actually, that was a real live Edison cylinder dictation machine - the horn at the end of the long tube was for speaking into (probably closer to shouting into); it then recorded onto a wax cylinder. Basically the early memo machine for a secretary to type letters from. The cylinders could be reused...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Got an HP 5246L from the wallet sucking site. 'Free' shipping. The guy literally put a single layer of bubble wrap around it, then folded corrugated cardboard tightly around the instrument. From this angle, you can clearly see that it's wider at the back of the pic than the front - the sides ...
