Re: TEK RM5110

Look closely at the ones near the end with the red and black wires - they're solid on the male edge connector - you'll need to slice the fingers/pads lengthwise to separate them. Those pads are siamesed on both sides on mine. https://photos.smugmug.com/Electronics/Misc-test-equipment/i-BRZKvZS/0/LH6...

Re: TEK RM5110

As long as you split the siamesed pads, why do you think the JAMMA cable would need extensive rework? As long as all the connections are 1:1, it should effectively be invisible to the plug in. And why remove the unused cables? If they're no connects, they won't hurt anything, and the TM-500 equipmen...

Re: HP 211A

The ones you can usually tell on are the old black tubular Sprague caps with the yellow or red lettering (can't recall the series off the top of my head). Yellow print means paper, they'll have become resistors. Red print means difilm; those are normally ok. The way I remember it is think like traff...

Re: TEK RM5110

I haven't used the one I got yet, so I haven't gone through it, but the main thing I'm aware of is that you need to slice the siamesed pads on the end of the male connector where the pairs of black and red wires attach to make the connections separate, and the other thing I'd do is check the connect...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Glad to see your replacement meter came, and even more importantly was still there when you got home. You'd think it would be common sense as a delivery person to put a package in at least a somewhat inconspicuous spot if possible. Obviously, I expect too much from people, as common sense is a horri...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

That meter looks like it cleaned up really nicely. Do you know of a source of pin plug test leads? I have two meters that use them but no leads. I was going to try test fitting a mini-banana plug connector into a pin socket and see if it fits and is workable but haven't had a chance yet. IIRC Probe...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Last I needed a 15V one for a VOM I found them ridiculously expensive so made my own from a stack of LR44 button cells held together with heatshrink and a short length of brass tube to make up the length shortfall. Or are the 22.5V a different arrangement ? 2x 12V remote batteries and a diode or 2 ...

It's funny how what you're used to can completely color your perception of things. I have a private pilot ticket, and spent quite a few years in the 80s/90s flying around here in the northeastern U.S. In summer it gets hazy. VERY hazy. Like five miles of visibility aloft is a good VFR day hazy. I wa...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

The 635HV is another I'd never heard of - just looked it up - wow, 6 kV! Are the HV ranges just additional voltage dividers that you plug into and select a lower voltage range using the selector knob, or? (It's not obvious from looking at the pics I found online.) I do have a Simpson 269, but need t...

Interesting - that's the first I've ever heard or seen of them. Fortunately, I don't have a 260 - used Triplett 630s in HS and so developed an affinity to that breed. Hunted one down years ago; it's buried around here somewhere. Good luck in chasing down the rest of them - that'll be a cool collecti...

Such is the perverse way of the world, that if you have a really nice piece if HP kit that ought to have one, it may well have dropped off, but if you have a piece of junk where the only recoverable thing is the badge, it will be impossible to remove it without damaging it. Apparently one of Murphy...
