They're on some seriously good stuff if they think someone's going to pay ANYTHING for that. WTF, was it used as a chock for an M1 Abrams?

Thank you for that. I shall show SWMBO that things could be so much worse. But at least you have a cat in there, queen of all she surveys. Which is a lot. My bench has a shelf above it, stacked five high with DMMs, SMUs, etc, etc. An ex-colleague came round a week or two ago and was visibly taken a...

Yes, I do!!

Blondie sez my lab is a hoard. Mike, show her this picture of my living room, taken literally a few minutes ago. I bet she'll change her tune. Lack of a SWMBO can be a mixed blessing - my floor joists certainly don't like it! https://photos.smugmug.com/Electronics/Misc-test-equipment/i-wP6MRJd/0/LT...

Pull back on the stick and the houses get smaller. Keep pulling back on the stick and the houses get bigger again. Getting some sailplane time certainly helped clarify the whole pitch controls airspeed/power controls altitude concept. I too bought a copy of Langeweiche's book back in 1990 on the sug...

Can anyone use a roll of what I suspect is heat-sensitive printer paper? 210mm wide but about 6" diameter and in a thick black plastic bag. The lab now has a 600 x 1200 five shelf rack; a lot of floor has magically reappeared. (There are other racks, but they are all full.) The new rack is onl...

Yeah, I guess there are some that are a bit bigger... https://photos.smugmug.com/Electronics/HP-523C-Electronic-Counter/i-vFLhq9S/0/Kc5nXzmJdTGPb8s5LDX5CtmkQg5wsqhpQS35sXFH5/X3/2018070203340573-IMG_7777-X3.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Electronics/HP-524C-Electronic-Counter/i-svDGbkN/0/KFDztTJtRjkd...

I'd quite like a better counter than my TTi PFM1300 handheld thing, but it's not something I use often and I don't really have room for 3U, even if is it shallow. It's still smaller than an hp 5245L... Don't be dissing the 5245L!!! :P :P :P https://photos.smugmug.com/Electronics/Misc-test-equ...

Pretty much any compressor would do. I'd also suggest that you look at the Thermaltronics DS-KIT-1. I'm not sure about availability over on the continent, but it's available here in the US from Amazon for US $315.00, making it over $100 less than the Metcal. The Thermaltronics guys are apparently ex...

Yeah, it was great fun. Shame they went and used a pile driver on a fly.

... I recall the patter about how one had been stored and just needed circuit boards reseated, which begged the question of why he hadn't just reseated them... I love the clowns who say that. Or similarly, "It just needs a fuse." It's an immediate "nope" when I hear that, becaus...

Was it only me, or was it impossible to get into the forum over the last couple of days? No. Definitely not just you - I was getting bad gateway errors and refreshes were taking forever. I almost DM'd you on DIY Audio to see if you were seeing it too, but then decided to wait it out. It seems bette...

Adorable!! On another note, Schottky arrived here a year ago yesterday. https://photos.smugmug.com/Animals/2502-16-Felines/i-b77xzJx/0/KDX94FchKL42frhHM9whJKGFH6VF2Vw9HDBSVqjzT/X3/25_07-10%20Schottky%2006-X3.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Animals/2502-16-Felines/i-n57HnBh/0/KKdKr488MLL9LQQppqpd5jrQb...

A piece of good news and a miracle of sorts. After nearly 6 days Motley showed up. Apparently OK. Where he was is a mystery. I will keep further opinions of that whole situation to myself. I strongly suspect our opinions on this subject would be in line. That said, I'm very happy to hear tha...

Yesterday while at Blondie's daughter's picnic we learned that Motley, Harley's brother, hasn't been seen for 5 days. That's not a good sign at all and further angers me that they let their cats outside with those traffic conditions. I guess it's a miracle that Dually made it 5 years and Mo...

Very sorry to hear, Mike. Mine are strictly indoor because they're on the food chain here, cars would also be a potential issue. RIP, little guy. Hopefully Blondie's daughter reevaluates the outdoor cat thing for her others.

There are several Youtube videos extolling the inventive engineering excellence of the UK mains plug. If you tread on one, pins upward, in the middle of the night when you are on the way to the bathroom, thoughts of engineering excellence are lost in a torrent of foul, filthy and indeed, profane la...

I saw a few of these over the years on the Bay of Evil, but never bought one. Decided the next one I saw I would go for; it arrived last week. It's nothing more than a metered variac in a Clement cabinet, but is a nice unit just the same. The Variac (a Superior Electric device) is rated for up to 9 ...

Nice score on the test oscillators, and congrats on getting the Ham ticket! The guys at the radio museum were on me forever to get mine; finally took the tests back pre-pandemic and got the Technician and General knocked off. In hindsight, I wish I'd gone for the hat trick, but eventually will go fo...

Not far from the truth. I was sitting in the chair and he jumped up on the arm and looked at me as if to say "why are you sitting in my chair?" Then proceeded to force me to move aside so he could lay directly on the seat cushion. But he was not totally happy with that as indicated by som...
