Re: Interesting findings on the internet
Allergy testing is a known pig. Binary searching of dietary ingredients is not something that be easily fitted into a standard appointment :( That's a bit old school. Radioallergosorbent tests and fluorescence enzyme-labeled assays have been standard for quite some time now. One blood sample and yo...

Re: Interesting findings on the internet
If your condition is what I think it is, I had the same problem. Allergy testing showed I was allergic to nothing and I was just dumped an inhuman level of steroids to slap all over myself which did nothing. Turned out that the test was wrong and the test was just not effective. Stopped drinking mi...

Re: Interesting findings on the internet
Oh, I've occasionally tweaking those with a natural/alternative/etc bent. I start off by showing sympathy by noting that we should never forget that many "alternative medicine" remedies are indeed effective. I then put the knife in by pointing out that they are so important that they are ...

Re: Interesting findings on the internet
I always regard rebranding as a negative. Either there is something to forget, or the managers know something isn't right but don't know what to do. That leads to "something must be done, this is something, this must be done". I apologise if I've told y'all this anecdote before. I used to...

It seems Mike Magee (founder of The Register and The Inquirer) has died, RIP. https://www.semiaccurate.com/2024/08/12/industry-pioneer-mike-magee-has-passed-away/ That rather good obituary refers to one of many articles Magee wrote in his inimitable style, about to Queen Princess Fiorina. http://we...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
How about TiN-ing? TiN is normally applied as a surface hardening treatment rather than as a corrosion passivating layer. I've no idea of the corrosion performance of TiN although instinct says it's probably quite considerable. As the whole 'stainless' bit of stainless steel is a self-passivating l...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
This was a problem for early Apple Watch users as well. The alu alloy they used had a high nickel content. I couldn't wear one. They changed it around S6 or so as they did with their laptops finally. I dissolve them with my sweat instead now. Yeah, the nickel makes more contribution to chloride ion...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
I've always found stainless steel watches cause slight skin irritation after a time. I haven't noticed the stainless steel has been even slightly corroded, although there must have been some chemical action. Surgical grade stainless steel is hardly expensive when you consider the amount used in a w...

I don't know what was going on there. The insurance company wasn't as red in tooth and claw as I thought they'd be. Maybe the claim was below the noise, or it was worth £500 to ding his no claims bonus, or it was the excuse they were looking for to get rid of him as a client. While there is the a p...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
Well, I'm assuming that these are all as standard according to data I got, a 2006 Mustang 5 Litre gets 300hp and 320 ft/lbs of torque and a 1.7 litre Civic gets 98hp and 162 ft/lbs of torque and doing the maths, there is not a lot of difference in hp per litre but plenty more torques. So working it...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
Those big American V8s are rubbish at extracting the HP, I bet you're getting far more HP per litre of engine capacity then they are getting and your getting far better mpg in the bargain. ;) Better fuel economy without a doubt. Better HP/liter? That depends on how they are set up. There is an old ...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
A while back I made some adapter boards for SOIC 14 and 16 chips with room to add decoupling capacitors. Not as ambitious as above, but it removed the frustration of decoupling these ICs on a breadboard with huge long leads to the decoupling caps.

I think the EU are "having enough of that shit" at the moment. Hopefully it'll catch. Not the EU but Euro NCAP, who have added physical controls for certain things to the next version (2026) of NCAP testing. So you can't get a top safety rating for your vehicle unless it has real indicato...

Cerebus will probably know the most evil way of disposing of sodium. I have an acquaintance who is a top tier conspiracy wanker. I would probably dunk it in his fish tank. The most energetic would be to finely divide (i.e. grind) it in an inert atmosphere (argon say) and then rapidly combine the du...

The geiger counters and radioactive sources are another issue... Interesting; how intense? A schoolfriend had a fob watch that was significantly more intense than the school's radioactive sources. It went to Harwell. I only have a lump of sodium, some unadulterated sodium chlorate, some pot...

He was born late May - early June last year so he's now fully grown. And yes, he has put a little extra weight. Since he is strictly an indoor cat we have already taken steps to cut back on his food and try to exercise him as much as possible. I wasn't suggesting that he's becoming a chonker, just ...

I concur on all accounts. Also you can’t just jump it from another car. There is a secondary 12v battery but if that’s dead too it’s a brick. I did some reading though and this is not the case on newer Tesla vehicles though. 2018 vintage was stupid. Well more stupid anyway. If the high voltage batt...
