Re: TEK TM503 Project

So today I attempted to calibrate the DCV and Ohms. It did not go well. All the internal voltages were checked as per the manual and were in spec. But the best I could do on DCV is +2.659V vs +2.501V. Definitely NFG. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq70/922/ghDy3i.jpg The Ohms did initially calib...

The old C35. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq70/924/2HmzZs.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3at_Ev2kOoI New C35. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq70/924/xHCS6u.jpg Decided to see if any of the plug-in's work. The DMM works but is inaccurate. That reading should be 2.500V. Resistance is a...

Gotta love those little, or not so little, surprises and when you confront the seller you get a bunch of dumb and dumber.

The 500 series plug-in's with the switched out vacuum tubes comes to mind.

Re: TEK TM503 Project

The PSU cleaned up well and no shorts were found. A beautiful job, and no need for any over the top measures, quite likely to prove disappointing. All it took was a soft brush to loosen the caked on dust. The project is now on hold until the replacement capacitors arrive next week. The cost of the ...

The PSU cleaned up well and no shorts were found. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq70/923/COOrty.jpg Decided to check the DC voltages and the 11.5V measured 7.7V with 2VAC ripple. C35 is open and confirmed with the Peak tester. Submitted the order for total re-cap of the main PSU and the plug-in...

Re: TEK TM503 Project

It's tempting and I've used the dishwasher before to clean parts but I worry that the open frame power transformer won't like it. I'll come up with something to clean that PSU.

Still needs to be cleaned then tested for shorts. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq70/922/zsxVIg.jpg And now. Some po...

TEK TM503 Project

A local Facebook Marketplace find. Only $50 USD and we all know how much they go for on Evil Bay. TM503 with a DM501 DMM, FG501 Function Generator, and a PS503 Dual Supply. Unknown if it powers up. Seller got it from a storage unit and didn't have ability to test. It's damn dirty and will need a goo...

According to what I read it was already present on both sides of the pond.

To be fair the driving tests I've seen in the US just make sure you're not DUI when you turn up and that you can breathe.

Hardly much point in enforcing distinct standards on people!

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Different from the days when most cars had three forward gears and reverse, with syncromesh only on 2nd and 3rd. This was luxury compared to earlier crash gearboxes where you had to double declutch to change gear. I've only known one person with an automatic only driving licence. Automatics were ne...

I remember the answer given to the question "what do I need to beat a Mustang?" asked in the late 90s on the Miata mailing list. The reply? "A corner!" Even though the Mustang was a POS at handling the best car chase ever filmed was this. Count how many hub caps the Dodge Charge...

I agree that the Mustang GT with that trim and motor is mediocre in terms of total HP and torque. And Mustang's have never been known to have superior handling. They are considered a "pony car", not a "muscle car". The current Mustang can be optioned with a 500hp engine and suppo...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Those big American V8s are rubbish at extracting the HP, I bet you're getting far more HP per litre of engine capacity then they are getting and your getting far better mpg in the bargain. ;) Better fuel economy without a doubt. Better HP/liter? That depends on how they are set up. There is an old ...
