Re: HP 204C
hey. even my old 54601a does an fft.
https://www.hpmemoryproject.org/an/pdf/hp54600_fft.pdf
edit ok...it was purchased maybe 6 or 7 years ago, but it was only 75 bucks.
sure, a spectrum analyzer would be a lot cooler. but 75 bucks and it will measure distortion. (that's a win).

Re: HP 204C
suggesting that med acquire a distortion analyzer is........just plain mean. it might cause him to go off searching for an hp334. (DON'T DO THAT!) maybe he has a scope with an fft function? my hp54622 will measure distortion with an fft. not being a tek guy i don't know for sure, but they must have ...

Re: Going free: Fluke 760A Voltage Calibrator
100 miles vs. 100 years. My house in 95 years old. My parents house was 170 years old. Then we get to old houses. I enjoy walking down streets 2000 years old, and sitting on rocks placed in a circle by people completely forgotten to time who spoke in an unknown (and forevermore unkowable) language....

no doubt you guys will scoff at me......but in my 20's and 30's, when out on the trail I sometimes would smell a snake before anyone would see it. it didn't happen that often, but often enough that my fellow hikers would pay attention when warned that something smelled "snakey". what does ...

"I suspect that, as with the BBC, that is because there is no pressure from the advertisers to create ever more episodes until the content becomes homeopathic. Yes M*A*S*H, I'm looking at you" probably why we still praise the quickly canceled "firefly" . if they had killed off &q...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
there are a couple of reasons for using that 6ft length of rg-58 coming off the signal generator. 1 the 8620 is off to the side of the bench at the bottom of a stack of hp heavy metal. and my ass is lazy and old. 2. the 10 ghz sweep plug-in is home brew. its output comes right off the yig at 20 dBm....

do not have a manual for the 8620b and could not look it up.
it was indeed dead short, so it made me wonder.

was using my 10Ghz franken-sweeper to try to characterize the directivity of this coupler at higher than its rated range. smelled smoke! then the damn sweeper output disappeared. shit! turned out to be an easy fix after only 20 minutes of trouble shooting. damn cap on the sweep generator board went ...

I have to agree with Mike. in the early 2000's my set up was a loran frequency comparison receiver for checking my in house rubidium standard. then an executive order required the coast guard to turn off the transmitters and topple the antenna towers. thanks obama! so my new plan was to fix a borked...

Went to store for soda for the kids... everybody is there stocking up on everything from milk to bread to yes, dozens of rolls of TP. Lines literally 3/4 of the store deep. Why? 80-160mm of snow forecast over the next 2 days. Panic buying is a strange mentality. You'd think folks would keep ...

Arriving early part of next week, something that has been eluding me at the right price for years. This beauty will take boards upto 240 mm long and a tad over 100 mm in depth, 3.2 litres in fluid capacity, just what I needed when I did that Black Star 4503 bench meter with that very high impedance...

Correctly guessed. It is the Pompeii archaeological site. Currently lying in bed in Naples. Off to the archeological museum in an hour. Hopefully the rain stops by then. Yes it’s bloody raining. Do try some local excessively sensual fresh fruit, but don't gorge on them. Ficus carica, of course. You...
