Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Latest and likely final Wavetek 278 update, I have eliminated the spurious output protection alarm, this was down to the analogue board (referred to as the function generator in the manual) having bad joints on every pin of its Molex power connector *and* having many variable resistors in very much...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Got some new TE, or is it a weapon? RS-HE200-sml.jpg Sort of the EM version of a Thomson/Center Arms Contender. Four "barrels" covering 10kHz to 3 GHz. I now have full set of accessories for my R&S FSH3. It even has the antenna factors for the HE200 pre-programmed in the firmware. I't ...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

I did say the Wavetek was working when last used some time ago and that it had a habit of giving an output error message that I never got to go wrong on the bench. Now you've fixed it I'd be happy to give you your £20 back :P Robert. Ah! No need for a refund, it's a thoroughly enjoyable little gene...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Telford is a bit far for me at 125 miles.
I've also just committed the entire TEA fund (teapot?) to a Best Offer on a bit of R&S kit so with luck won't have any funds....

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Greetings everyone, I'm a long time reader of this thread in its original place and have decided to type some words here. Southern UK people will likely know me from radio rallies where I've a tendency to buy the odd piece of equipment, with yesterday's rally yielding a "not working" HP 1...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Went to the Milton Keynes radio rally (Hamfest) today. It was (almost) a waste of time. There were not a lot of sellers and virtually no TE. The only just about TE Igot was a handful of Greenpar inter-series coaxial adaptors. The only other thihgs tha made it not a total failure were a couple of odd...

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

No difference in the way phosphors are activated in CFLs compared to traditional fluoresent tubes. There may be differences in phosphor and even gas mix but that is true for both lamp types.
All fluorescents banned in EU and UK from next year....

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

Ooh don't like the stripboard. It can easilly arc across and breakdown. The SRPB bord is't the best insulator either.
A bit of bare GRP board materal and connections with just the resistor leads is better. A acrylic tube with them all in series is even better.

Re: New phone scam, please watch and be vigilant.

The answer to this type of scan is that you never give a one time code to somone else by phone or email etc and never use one that wasn't generated by you doing something yourself without any direction form anyone else.

My latest meter arrived today. It is a sound level meter. A CEL 393. This is a early microprocessor controlled class 1 (high accuracy) meter. On the original battery replacement I just took my 20+ year old Breitling Aerospace watch in for battery replacement. It has to go back to Breitling. I paid £75 for my E8510A which while not Jammy Git is a pretty good buy.
I'll not be accessing it remotely. It will be nce to access the DMM and 'scope from any PC on my internal network though.

Yes properly organised car meets with the site owners permission are common and not a issue. The problem is when lots of barely legal (at best) vehicles turn up un-announced and start making noise and smoke (burn-outs). This is fundamentally illegal. These people don't care about others. Note they g...

The transformer is the little toroid with 3 windings. Operation is odd. One winding seems to go to an oscillator on the mains side, one drives the main switch MOSFET gate and the third is feedbck from the DC side. I think the feedback saturates the core cutting the drive. I was able to dig out the f...
