Re: Cleaning Sealed Or Inaccessible Potentiometers

Pedant alert!
As you got the deoxit into them the pots are clearly not "completely sealed". Fully enclosed with no access maybe.

Re: Fluke Friday - Going through the Fluke Collection

There are scopemeters and there are scopemeters. The original Phillips models are OK (screens are poor by modern standards). So are the Fluke 199C onwards. I presume you are refering to the 123 scopemeters which would be beter named Meterscopes.

Re: Fluke Friday - Going through the Fluke Collection

YOU GUYS ALL MISSED THE POINT! there is only one criteria for choosing any one meter over all others. if you are in the fortress of solitude and a large rodent runs across your neat and tidy bench.......which meter will kill it in one shot? we all know the answer to this question. Yes, but it is th...

Re: Fluke Friday - Going through the Fluke Collection

I paid list for my pre-release 87 when I worked for Philips Lighting. Over the course of 6 paychecks, yes, but I still paid it because after using it for a month as my issued meter, I wanted to keep it that much. It was my daily driver and first at hand; whatever the gig, when it was set up on my b...

Re: Ebay Standards of seller.

At least that is just a matter of judgement. I see many items of TE listed as tesed and working dispite having obvious serious defects in the photos, missing critical separate parts or accessories (often matched to a specific instrument). There are also the items listed as tested when it is clear fr...

Re: tinysa ultra vs hp8569b

Very interesting comparision.
The tinysa is better than nothing and very handy but clearly poor performance compared to a very old real spectrum analyser. Very poor local oscillator performance is evident from distortion of levels close in to signal.

Yes you can, I said this on the original thread Hi, No specfic restrictions on carrying capacitors on passenger aircraft. However it is an unusual case and supercapacitors did not exist when most regulations were written. The energy limit for batteries is 100 Wh or 360 kJ. A 310 F 2.7 V capacitor is...

Bought something at the last Ramco auction. Not TE, a 19" rack mount radio receiver. Yet again poor packing by Ramco and poor handing by Parcel Force resulted in a bent side frame and bowed front panel. Fortunatly it works and chassis is "bolt together" folded light alloy sheet so I c...

I did a "change your own dressing" once and the end of my finger came of with it  That was caused by the inapproriate use of a local anaesthetic with adrenaline on an extremity.

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread

The "Nano VNA" things are interesting but are pretty limited particuarly the cheaper ones. When they say to use a 10dB attenuator on each port to isolate the mismatch (the ports are not 50R) it makes me worry. Their dynamic range is low enough without knocking 20dB off before you start. If...

I've been thinking about getting a NewScope LCD replacementfor the CRT display in my HP 8753B VNA. The NewScope upgrades it to colour, less power weight and heat.
