Re: Tek Type 516 Restoration
It always confuses me to hear these guys who have systems that are so close to perfection then say they changed something and 'it opens up the music in ways I never heard before’. WTF? Either your system is so close to perfect that there’s almost no improvement left to be had, or you’re delusional....

Re: Tek Type 516 Restoration
Those are ECC86/6GM8 which I'm sure the phools lust after. Oddly all the 6DJ8's in this scope are GE branded and USA made so they have almost no appeal to the phools. But it does have a somewhat uncommon ECC82/12AU7 Bugle Boy which could bring big bucks. Might be tempting to put them up for sale at...

You've clearly been inspired by this old cartoon... https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZT5XJHDmWec/Tz2RhRCd3zI/AAAAAAAABS8/nWxyTJRcmrc/s1600/dead_cat_005.jpg Plenty more where that came from, 101 to be precise - with a sequel of another 101 because the first 101 were so popular. And there's the widely known...

Meereen! Naturally I would be happy to go and support you in this rash and desperate action, but I've noticed that I have to take my library books back. Go loaded for bear. Since the talk is of cats, the howdah pistol was the last resort on tiger hunts, as the enraged tiger was clawing its way up t...

Re: Post a picture of a cat
Seen lots of cats today, some mangy.
Started off the day by walking 50 yards to the fishmarket, followed by breakfast of a freshly filleted fish (still with rigor mortis) fried in butter and freshly cooked shrimp stock.
Later will visit the dragons' home in Meereen.

Re: Tektronix 465B repair
Everybody needs a 485 for its 50ohm input. Helps if the user can do mental arithmetic, rather than relying on cursor readout :) I happen to prefer my 2465CTS with 50Ω input and cursors with readouts, including a frequency counter... :D I think you'll find it is 50ohm//20pF => the usual crap VSWR. T...

Re: Tektronix 465B repair
Picked that one up a few months ago; haven’t yet gone through it other than to turn it on and confirm it at least partially works, as seen there. Seems that at a minimum the trace mode switches are going to need some cleaning. When working they are delightful, and have the main position on my bench...

Re: Tektronix 465B repair
Thanks for the offer. I'm contemplating what to do at the moment and will let you know. The outcome is one of: 1) Go argh and wonder why I bought another 465B 2) Accept your gracious offer 3) Buy all the 465B's that come up on eBay and surround myself with a wall of scopes. Go with choice three, bu...

It doesn't sweep or trigger properly though. One for the next round! That sounds very familiar :) See some of my other posts! Yes it does indeed. I think I'll just describe them as "obsolete electronic display devices". I can't see how VAT applies, since they don't pay it in the US. Discharge lamps appear to have no duty owing either. I'll try to get the Postmaster to serve me when I go to the PO, he's a former lead-melter, and mig...

So I bought another Tek 465B  ... and not mine. Mine now has a functional sweep and trigger: a 3W resistor in the sweep generator had doubled in value or gone open circuit. Only remaining imperfection is that ch1 attenuation fingers need cleaning. Alternatively you could have had a 465B with ...

It might turn out to be still profitable to just pay the fines as "cost of doing business" and simply pass that cost onto the customer. mnem Business as Usual is killing us all. "A breach of the law can result in an online content provider being fined up to £18 million or 10 percent ...
