Analog Devices no longer sells to individuals.
Just found out about it, by ordering some basic buck converter IC and getting order instantly cancelled. My friend tried too, same result. Confirmed later by Mouser’s office rats, that it is indeed the deal, that Analog Devices does not sell to individuals (that includes Linear and likely Maxim too). Started to be enforced about end of last year (~9/2025).
Now one needs (at least with Mouser) a company name, a company e-mail address, VAT number and seems the address must not be common household from what I understood. You have to be a “manufacturer”.

Also gone are the days when you could apply for and they'd send a sample.
The last time the sample came, but after followed a telephone conversation with a charming Swiss gent, who wanted to know what my production ramping schedule was, and offered the services of a team of integration engineers.

Digikey don't seem to be applying that policy and I bought some AD devices last week from them. Quite what benefit would accrue to AD from not selling to individuals is not in the least clear; it's not as if they are dealing with piffling small orders, it's the distributor's problem. What it certainly does do is poison the attitude of practising electronics engineers against incorporating AD products in their work designs; why would you put yourself at the mercy of an entity that acts upon an unexplained whim?
Re: Allegedly Analog Devices no longer sells to individuals
I would be happier if I knew why AD had taken that stance.
Wild speculation follows...
It might not be completely an AD edict. Consider that there are multiple Ongoing International Situations and The Authorities (in various countries) are making various edicts. I imagine there is a concern that an individual might surreptitiously export "interesting" components to factories located in caves/dugouts/etc. You know the kind of thing, a low value SMD resistor used as a fuse to detonate explosives, or a computer used to design atomic bombs
A concern is that such policies, if any, could spread to other distributors and/or other manufacturers. If that did come to pass, I'm not enthralled with the concept of buying components on fleabay or alibaba.
Strange but true: I have imported munitions, for use at work. It was a fancy HP DDS useful for generating comms signals, which could allegedly spoof an F14/F16 in some way or other. Paperwork was a pig.

Re: Allegedly Analog Devices no longer sells to individuals
It seems murky and could be anything. As I understand it, individuals could always buy small numbers of parts direct from most makers, although I'd guess most dealt with distributors who are geared up for that. It's reasonable that makers would not want to deal in small quantities as a purely business matter. It's not obvious that manufacturers could, or would want to, lay down the law to their distributors.
Given the tense geopolitical situation, with restrictions on all sorts of electronic parts, that may explain it. Possibly large numbers of private individuals are suddenly buying small numbers of particular parts, and sending them off to Russia, China or Iran. It seems like an easy thing for the security services to investigate and come down on those responsible.
There have long been restrictions on what could be sold to China, but AD etc obviously dealt with them. Does this mean the supply of modules sold on Aliexpress and based on manufacturers' demo boards, is going to end?
