Just a quick heads up to the UK motorists here, although I expect that you all, like me, stick to the speed limits, but it is also at times very easy to creep over the limit especially in an familiar area and the vehicle in front of you blocks the sign warning you of a new speed limit. The UK police are testing out new camera vans designed to blend in with their surroundings so you don't spot them until it's too late. I can't but think that strategy is flawed, I'd have thought they should have with just plain white vans so people think they are part of the gig economy delivery drivers
I think that these are trailed in Northamptonshire, first, if successful there, they will be rolled out across the UK.

Grey vans seems a bit naff. Surely they should be covering them in rainbows, so the LGBTQ+++++ community can have confidence in them.

How untidy of an English garden to have a broken fence. Hyacinth Bucket should be notified.

Re: Stealth camera vans in the UK being trailed
When fixed speed cameras were first installed they were designed to blend in with their surroundings. Then there were court cases that resulted in them being coloured florescent yellow.
AFAIK they were just as effective. Maybe those inattentive enough to significantly exceed the speed limit are also sufficiently inattentive to miss the florescent yellow cameras?
In short, I doubt this will make a major difference to the speeding and/or conviction rate.

Re: Stealth camera vans in the UK being trailed
That was my thoughts as well, but then they did try and hide the cameras behind signs and over hanging trees etc, hence why I also have a sat nav with camera warnings and also over speed warnings built in, it knows the speed limit on most of the countries roads and will alert you if you exceed them.
I have always been of the opinion that excessive speed was always a very dangerous thing so have made every effort to honour said limits, but it is occasionally easy to exceed them, like where the limit suddenly drop from the national 60mph to say 40mph in an area not known to you, and you're following a box lorry, bus etc blocking your forward vision.

Speed enforcement cameras and traffic light cameras are left up to each state. Some ban them outright. Some allow them under special circumstances. New York State/City is a mish mash of laws. In the state, other than NYC, speed enforcement cameras are only allowed in school zones. NYC, on the other hand, has over 2000 speed enforcement cameras in operation 24/7. Needless to say they rake in millions of dollars in fines. In all of New York, including NYC, traffic light cameras are only allowed in cities greater than 1 million population.
Unless otherwise posted the speed limit in NYC believe it or not is 25 MPH. You will get a ticket if 10 MPH over. You can see why tickets rake in millions because everyone down there drives like a bat out of hell.

As they do in California. One gets more or less honked at if driving at the limit, since everyone else are at 10-15 Mph over. Much the same here in the UK, but what is the alternative, drive like everyone else and risk being the cause of an accident, or even in one, especially if someone is injured or even killed and having that on your conscience, I'd rather be honked, thanks.mansaxel wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 9:07 pmAs they do in California.
