I forgot to take a pix of the new TE closet but here's something else. A milestone. Bench 1 completely devoid of TE and ready to be broken down for preparation to move. Have already started on bench 2. Things are proceeding well but nearly every bone and muscle in this old arse body is feeling it.

I think it’s a safe bet that I’ll have to die here. There’s simply too much stuff to ever move. I certainly don’t envy you the effort you’re expending getting everything migrated to the new place - lots of work! Hope you have an industrial-sized bottle of Advil on hand!

Welcome to the Dungeon of Doom. It's all there, somewhere. Except the boat anchors. They are still to move. They will be stored someplace else for the time being. And it will be quite a while before I dig into this and start getting it set up and arranged. Probably mid to late May. Right now close the room door and ignore it. Other priorities right now. But at least the vast majority of the actual move is done.

The first casualty of the move and it wasn't TE. Putting together the audio system and the JVC CD Player powers up but the transport is unresponsive. Opened it up and pieces of plastic from the bottom side of the transport fell out. Can't figure out how that happen. I moved the audio equipment myself and it didn't get any shock or was dropped. But somehow was damaged and is scrap.

For giggles went out on CL and a similar JVC CD Player 5 minutes away for $25. Made arrangements to pick up. Works perfect. Happy ending.

(Yes, I still listen to CD's. Old fashion I guess. )

I'm another dinosaur who listens to (or at least rips to lossless format) CDs, and want physical copies of my media - none of this streaming stuff. Streaming is for YouTube; music and movies should be on shiny little round discs.

I fit in that group as well, I often go to the charity shops and sift through their CD's, and then I take them home and transfer that to my hard drive and play them through iTunes. That way, if anything untoward happens, I still have the music in CD format and can rip them again and again if need be.

I have a couple of hundred CDs and I like listening to them. I could probably copy them to a new fangled streaming device, but I see no reason.

A few years back my Philips CD player died, because the laser diode had given up the ghost, and I swapped out the mechanism for a Chinese look alike from ebay. It worked but acted up. Eventually I splashed £200 on a new Onkyo which works very well. I did read a lament on the WWW about how modern laser diodes aren't made to last, and even expensive CD players have a definite and fairly short life. Elaborate plastic bits will break, even if they weren't done on the cheap in the first place, as with knobs and gears on some HP kit.

I'd guess some of the plastic bits on the JVC CD player, were at the point where you only had to look at them funny and they'd fall apart. $25 and five minutes away sounds like a good deal.

I've mp3ed my collection, for use on my matchbox sized mp3 player in the car.

Getting that player wasn't as easy as I expected. The first one I tried played albums in some fixed arbirtary order, ignoring track title, filename etc.

The salesdroid didn't see anything wrong with that, and even had difficulty appreciating that I preferred to read book chapters in the correct order, not an order that the printer had invented for the sake of it. Got my money back, after being insistent.

I have a huge bin full of my CDs that wifey and I have archived to iTunes for her work iPod Classic. Which I will soon have to upgrade the SSD in... again.

I am currently in the process of curating a large selection of that which we both like and creating my own archive; as hers now includes such massive quantity of various music I simply cannot find mine in all of it. iTunes still kicks ass for this single, simple purpose; one just has to be patient and ensure that you have "Error Correction" enabled when importing. This does make the process take much longer, but when ripping from imperfect original media, it is absolutely necessary.

From there one can just export as MP3 or copy the folders directly as AAC; most playback devices fully support both nowadays, even the factory radio in our Rav4.

I'm alive and still kicking. By the end of this coming week everything will be moved and the old place cleaned up. Looking forward to that because once that's done I can start fitting up the new lab.

No. If you recall I repainted the whole place about 3 years ago. And moving out I only marred one small area of a wall in the living room. I expect the landlord will probably re-paint the entire apartment a neutral color anyway.

One 7904 in the closet, one Type 535A, and three Type 547. Next week I'll be assembling bench 2 and they will move into the lab. This completes about 99% of the move. The rest is clean up and minor stuff.

Nearly all done then, great, take care with those boat anchors when you pop them up on the bench. I think I actually prefer the colour of your sprayed one to the originals.

I really would have preferred not to paint that cabinet because I knew it would not match the others. But that's the scope that has the tweaked and bent chassis and I had to trim to covers to get them to fit properly. That color does very closely match newer Tek cabinets. I've heard that the "Tek Blue" color did not change over the years so the mismatch I assume is due to aging of the original paint.

Yes, I think you are correct there, if you take a closer look at the other three, the top left one appears to slightly darker than the other two.

It's done. Final cleanup and handed in the keys today. It's been a long haul and my old arse body hurts.
