When do you own that laptop / notebook that you have paid thousands for? Answer is in reality you don't and you just have to keep your fingers crossed and hope that nothing goes wrong, or that Apple don't just go out of business etc. Ifixit got 2 identical MacBook pros and swapped screens between them and then logic boards etc, and they refused to work correctly until all the parts from MacBook A and MacBook B were reassembled with the rest of A and B respectively. Conclusive proof that they are encoding everything together to prevent anyone other than Apple repairing them as they have to be recoded.

More irrational paranoia...
Ok firstly iFixit are not a neutral source of information. They have an agenda. Basically Apple shut their entire repair business down by offering parts so you can repair stuff yourself and now they are getting pissy because that's exactly what people are doing and their market for low grade non OEM shit is shrinking.
Secondly you can swap the screens fine but you have to run configurator / calibrator on the unit after the fact. That's quite normal these days because there are several vendors of most parts inside the machine and they have subtle differences in the firmware configurations much like when you get either an Alps or a Synaptics clitmouse on a thinkpad which are not compatible.
Thirdly the guy doing the repair has no idea what the fuck he is doing and needs to read the service manual. He's literally mutilating the shit out of it.
Fourthly, why the hell would you bother? Just take it back to the Apple Store and get it fixed under warranty / CRA2015 (6 years here in the UK) if the keyboard fucks out. They will do it absolutely no questions asked if you tell them that. Personally I pay for the arse fluffing AppleCare+ with express replacement.
It's expensive shit but it's good shit.

Edit: and what I don't get is when people go "OH THE PARTS ARE EXPENSIVE" or "OMG APPLE FUCKED ME OVER" and then immediately go and spend £1500 on a routine interval service on their shitty Merc or something. Cost and perceived value are corrupted in most people's eyes.

Wow, I never realised Apple even had service manuals for the latest products, or indeed, any of them for that matter, all the people I've seen doing Apple repairs seemed to have hooky service sheets etc, so well done Apple for making them available and their official parts as well.

Yeah. They will also rent you the official tool kits and ship them to you in flight cases for £49. Thats 43Kg of specialist display adhesive equipment, jigs etc and quality Wera tools in two flight cases with the same tools they repair the devices with in the shops.
And they buy back the broken parts and recycle them.
iFixit and Rossman are pretty quiet on that shit.

Regardless. I can't wait for Blondie's IPhone to die a horrible death and put me out of my misery of trying to figure out shit that makes no sense.
