Oh, yes we do And many are barely the width of a car's wheelbase, so if you straddle them correctly you barely notice them.

In Bradford, full-road-width ones are common, and even the ones that aren't full width can be very harsh. There's a truncated pyramid type that is too wide to straddle, except in a HGV/bus, and they are vicious.

The full-width ones are common here as well. The way of reducing their effect is to approach them at a slightly oblique angle so that each wheel's independent suspension removes much of the vertical movement. Unintended consequences, and all that

There are a few "long" ones, where the car goes up, then horizontal, then down. Uses a lot of tarmac, so I'm not sure why they are used. I count them as two speed bumps.

Those ones in the (first picture I found) picture do have unusually steep sides; most have sides as shallow as the ramp.

I don't know, but my guess is that the main reason for the partial-width ramps is so they can be largely avoided during "flashing blue light" journeys.
