Oh, how sad. My condolences. Lurk or post, do what you feel is best. Wife lost her father to a heart attack one year ago. That wasn't easy for her, nor me, so I can readily imagine.

I have the 5440. With a broken horizontal plugin. I have bought a spare part for it, a special Tek IC, and then I just sort of lost my box of round tuits needed to fix it. Other than the, they're nice scopes those. Also even if not painted blue. The true gem to get of course is the curve tracer. Made of unobtanium that is.

It has some very "interesting" circuit design in there, especially the digital logic and "storage circuit" and the trimming mechanism. The case is such that if I sold one I wouldn't need to wrap it in bubble wrap or cardboard

You'll need the manual for the 8120, which is the same except for the case.

My concern is more the number of inane posts/posters. That seems to have been increasing faster over the past year, and several useful people have left, e.g. TiN, T3sl4co1l. Moderation can never be the answer to those.

Plus then the quality of discourse is falling, in the same way and for the same reasons as it is in the rest of society.

I have to agree about moderation being an impossible task. I'm a moderator on another local forum/social media platform that is actually a global platform but run as local areas to keep things more manageable, Some of my moderator colleagues, in my opinion, are not upto the job as they lack any comprehension of context etc and trample over other people with their jack boots and that includes their other fellow moderators and have made themselves a laughingstock among many of the members. If the site was not chasing the money and in that pursuit have replaced many office staff with AI bots, I think that they would have been catapulted from their lofty perches long ago.

Roughly, the moderation has been so inconsistent and off touch that the incumbents are heavily pushing wingnuttery all over the place. The end game is that it becomes normalised and more objective contributors leave, resulting in amplification of the new status quo. I suspect that because this drives traffic to the owner or the owner aligns with it, that it is not likely to change.

And that's where I get off. I've watched communities die like that over and over again over the years.

The forum is a major source of income indirectly. How do you think you drive attention for your products? Build a community around them.

Occasionally I have to remind myself that I was one of the very few people that did see the 1999 total eclipse of the sun in Cornwall. There was a hole in the stratus from 5mins before start to 10mins after finish.

A local friend of mine has spent lots of money trying to see the Northern Lights 4 times. Went to Norway and Iceland. No luck. Ended up seeing it out of a Travelodge window in Wales. YMMV.

I suspect it's cheaper to emulate someone else's personality than it is to develop your own. That would explain the lack of depth of some of the acolytes (the term is growing on me).

I can see why the likes of Musk and Jobs are admired. They both achieved a considerable amount. Jobs was certainly a very flawed person.

I've never understood why the tabloid newspapers, and even the dearer ones, seem to believe that the small doings of people like the Kardashians are of vital interest. I suppose it must sell papers, but I can't see why anyone would waste their time reading such tosh.

New arrival. One slightly sick 8592L SA. It's deaf, Jim. That little peak is supposed to be -20dBm and 300MHz, not -60dBm and 301,4MHz...
