Incidentally this will go, as all these things do, absolutely fucking nowhere other than on the unemployment statistics when the tech firms move out of the UK.

It won't Save The ChildrenTM as claimed, but why would twatter/farcebook/etc removing an encrypted service have any affect on the number of people employed?

Well the thing is they won't be removing the service. They have said that. WhatsApp and Apple for example said they won't be compromising end to end encryption because if they do that for one country they have to do it globally and that would affect their market position as well as shitting on the users. That means that the local subsidiaries in the UK are now subject, as registered offices, to prosecution for violation of the law. The answer is likely that they will be withdrawing the aforementioned offices from the UK. Anyone who doesn't want to go with it or is ancillary will be kicked on the street.

I was under the impression that they would remove the services in the UK, and presumably that would be sufficient to avoid illegality.

Not sure what will happen when constituents complain to their MPs. It wouldn't be the first time a law hasn't been enforced. Corporate manslaughter? Never heard of it?

It might turn out to be still profitable to just pay the fines as "cost of doing business" and simply pass that cost onto the customer.

"A breach of the law can result in an online content provider being fined up to £18 million or 10 percent of its annual global turnover, whichever is the greater."

But, quite rationally, the death penalty isn't a deterrent if you don't think you will be caught. Faites vos jeux, mesdames et messieurs.

Yes that's the real outcome I expect to see. It will not be enforced until they need someone's data and then it'll be a quick earner on the fines.

My father had a (?1920s?)book (well, series of books) about how to build a car. It started by telling the reader how to build the tools to build a car.

He ambled into the woods, clad only in his birthday suit with an idea in his mind. First he needed to collect some dried moss and locate a suitable flint. Several days later, he was on 80m complaining about his newly acquired gout.

"Prompt-Specific Poisoning Attacks on Text-to-Image Generative Models"

Quote:
"Data poisoning attacks manipulate training data to introduce unexpected behaviors into machine learning models at training time. For text-to-image generative models with massive training datasets, current understanding of poisoning attacks suggests that a successful attack would require injecting millions of poison samples into their training pipeline. In this paper, we show that poisoning attacks can be successful on generative models. We observe that training data per concept can be quite limited in these models, making them vulnerable to prompt-specific poisoning attacks, which target a model's ability to respond to individual prompts."
