Yep nailed it.

Yeah the thing ate a litre of oil in the last week and was making some interesting noises coming back from the Cotswolds. Was getting to the point you hit the brakes and the STOP OIL__ warning comes up on the diag display. So I put some more oil in last week. Now this morning it started puking error codes. So had a look, saw oil around what looked like the oil pump, looked up the price of the oil pump to replace / repair which is just about the minimum cost you're going to pay here and decided that as I was going to sell it anyway that I'd turd polish it and lose it immediately. Went to Halfords, put another litre of oil in it which will silence it for a few days, attacked it with the jet wash and took it round to We Buy Any Turd's local office. They ambled around it, didn't even notice the puddle under it and offered me about 400 quid less than the price I'd have sold it privately for. SOLD. Money in my account within 30 minutes.

Then 20 minutes later the ex wife messages me and asks me to take some stuff to the dump for her. Hahahahaha no fuck off

Also just got £155 back from cancelling the insurance.

That's what you get for buying a cheap French car in the first place, it had a gnats fart too much and blew its vital fluids out all over the place, leaving a tell-tale trail of oil drips behind it all the time.

Considering it was our generation that wasted more than half the world's liquid/gas fuel reserves and left us so unprepared despite half a century of people trying to make us see the light... In all honesty, it should be our generation that suffers the withdrawal pain.

Yeah I can understand that, but at the same time I can't help but wonder if we are being told the plain truth, either way, I do think that there is another way we could go instead of mandating the change, Perhaps we should allow the people to make the decision as to the type of power they chose for the cars upto them. One way this could be done is by continuing the current trend of making engines smaller and greatly improve on their mpg figures and reduce emissions. Large powerful engines need to be banned outright on all new cars. If people really want to have such power on tap, then electric is the answer to that, Large ICE powered car are no stranger to filling stations anyway, as they also achieve stupidly low mpg figures anyway.

Generally speaking people who only really drive in their own city would, if the incentive was there chose electric, it would be a no-brainer option for them then, and those that need to go longer distances, between cities for example and back again or whatever, have a small but efficient ICE power plant in their cars.

This would slow down the consumption of the world's liquid/gas fuel and allow more time to explore new power systems that were more sustainable, kinder to the environment instead of just moving the toxicity from our shores to those somewhere else.

You're completely missing the point, which I've made again and again; ICEs need to die, period. As do all other forms of "burning shit to make our energy". Full stop.

In our homes and workplaces, we now use more energy to keep things cool than we ever did to keep things warm. When you burn shit to make your energy, on top of all the myriad forms of horrible pollution it creates, you pump more heat into the atmosphere than you do cooling a space, and then you pump the heat from cooling that space (and all the motors running to do so) into the atmosphere.

It is literally deficit spending on a global scale, only we're burning the currency instead of recirculating it. The math here is pretty simple; it is a cycle that multiplies loss by more loss.

And nowadays, we do exactly the same thing a trillion times over on a microscale with every ICE-powered vehicle on the roads; more than half of which really don't even need to be on the road.

We have to start tightening the belt somewhere... and humans never care aboot anything until it affects their comfort directly; so ICE-powered vehicles really are the only logical place to start applying the necessary pressure. Especially since, as I just said, more than half really don't need to be at all.

Motor vehicle culture has broken our society. It needs to die if we are to survive as a species. Once we've started on that by at least converting to EV, then we can apply pressure to the big bureaucracies and mega-corporations that burn shit to create electricity.

Smart people have tried to force big oil/big energy to clean up their act for half a century; the bastards have too much of a stranglehold on the world's government to ever be held accountable unless they're forced to change. They will have to be squeezed out of existence by other forms of energy.

EV is the first step that we can actually take.

But first, we need to stop thinking and arguing that kicking the can another decade... or two... or three... is in any way acceptable. We've already done that for literally half a century; we've run out of road to kick that can down.

Nope, I'm not missing the point at all, what I'm saying is that there seems to be no point in cleaning up the air that we breathe at the expense of the pollution of the air/ground in other areas of the globe. All we are doing by that is moving the problem somewhere else, not resolving it.

What we could do and we have already seen great strides down this avenue all ready, is to slow down the amount of "shit" being burnt dramatically, and that is something that the EU is doing pretty well at. My last 2 cars have been examples of that, both of them have been Skoda Superbs, both have been 2 litres in engine size, diesel, automatic. the first was a Euro 4 engine, the current one is the same car and engine size, but has a Euro 5b engine, which not only gives me better mpg figures but also lower emissions.

The next car which I'm eyeing up as a replacement for the current written off one, is still a Skoda Superb, but a few years newer, same size engine, same size fuel tank but a Euro 6 engine which is better still.

Over the last 10 years they have gone from Euro 4 to Euro 6 and Euro 7 is due very soon, so the Europeans are making huge strides in reducing the amount of fuel being burnt along with its harmful emissions. If the rest of the world match it, there would be an enormous improvement globally.

Compare that with say a 4.4L Range Rover, diesel, automatic
Euro 5 34mpg (best) official figures, 253/CO2/km 104L fuel tank 792 mile range (in theory)
Euro 6 37mpg (best) official figures, 243/CO2/km 89L fuel tank 703 mile range (in theory)

This shows the impact of limiting engine size and continuing development on the efficiency, Skoda is doing a far better job than Range Rover are.

I have a top speed of 137mph which is plenty for anybody, we in the UK have a maximum speed limit of 70mph and over in the USA it is 85mph so in reality a 2L engine tops is ideal whereas you have Cadillacs etc running around with huge V8 engines of 6L and more guzzling fuel at an alarming rate and spewing god knows how much CO2 into the air.

So if we could just get governments to introduce sensible limits on engine size and enforce motor manufacturers to cooperate and refine the engines even more, this alone would make a huge impact on the air quality, while allowing even more time to research alternative systems as I said in my earlier posting.

Spec, the time for "sensible reductions" was 50 years ago. Even 30 years ago it would have made some difference.

What you're suggesting as "reasonable" is just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic; that timetable for salvaging "life as we know it" is literally a century too late.
