Tek 7A24 Plug-in Unsteady Trace Channel 1

Post by MED6753 »

Latest project. This 7A24 350MHz plug-in has an issue where the trace on channel 1 fairly consistently bounces up and down several minor divisions. Channel 2 is OK. The plug-in is normally used in my 7904 but for easier troubleshooting it's installed in a 7603 that's on it's side. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to track down where the bounce is originating.

Looks for tants....can't see any.
Interconnects would be the next suspect.

As it's on the "happy side" i.e. you can service it I'd hit bits of it with a can of freeze spray and see what makes it get worse or goes away.

Freeze spray is currently missing from my arsenal of chemicals so I'll have to order some. But I snagged the issue anyway. The unsteady trace was originating from around U1450. There appeared to be some dry solder joints. It was difficult to get to the pin side of the board but I was able to clean them up. Plus deoxit'ed the channel selector switch. No more unsteady trace.

Since the 7603N hasn't been powered up for a very long time I installed it's assigned plug-in's and gave it a check out. All is well.

Also useful for removing warts, especially near fingernails.

Lab Cat approval is definitely important! Buy-in from the supervisor is a must.
