Given that 8% of men (and <0.1% women) suffer from some form of colourblindness, is there any way to find only the new threads/responses that doesn't depend on the difference between colours 208,86,71 and 348,78,74 (HSV, not RGB, natch).

The 86,71 is close to 78,74, i.e. only the hue is significantly different.

Quite frankly one of the good things about teh EEVBlog forum is the "show replies" and "show unread" buttons.
(And I hope I've just shown how subsequent edit are indicated :) )
(Or not indicated :( )

Have a look at the quick links section at the top. There are various links in there which I haven't worked out. Yet. I suspect they might be useful.

Yep, Quick links menu has a bunch of pages for new posts, unread, etc.

As for the colors, these are the defaults and may not be ideal. I'll certainly spend time on theming, logos, etc. once we settle on a platform, both to address access issues as well as to have our own look and feel.

Currently there are only 10 posts/page.
Is that enough or can it be increased to say the 25 that we (except tggzzz) were used to on EEVblog.

Where's that tweak emoji ?

Is there an option to receive email notifications of certain threads or indeed any emails at all, other than emails from other members?

Yes, you can bookmark and subscribe to topics. You can also subscribe to forums. Check out the FAQ on Bookmarks and Subscriptions.

I have been on the EEVBlog forum, QRZ.com etc, for years, never had an avatar on them, & didn't much care.

Some time back, though, I joined a Ham group on Facebook, & after a while, they changed the rules, so you couldn't post without an avatar.
I dug around, & made my Facebook avatar a picture of my little dog, Millie.
When I joined tea@groups.io, I was amazed to see Millie come up as my avatar there, without any action on my part.

OK, all off topic, so far,but I've become quite used to seeing the sweet little pooch appear on my posts, so I have been looking for a way to put her up as my avatar here.
All the info provided seems either to be very superficial, or to be aimed at administrators, so I am stumped.

Another weird thing is that when I registered here I was told I would receive an email-----nary a sign, & yet, here I am, fully signed up, & using the forum!

Configuring your avatar is in your User Control Panel (click on your name in the upper-right of the forum page and choose User Control Panel. Avatars are in the Profile section. The FAQ has a question about where it is.

Regarding the email, I believe you should've received one when your account was approved. Check your spam folder and mark it "not spam" (or equivalent) if it ended up there.

Yep! just after growling about it, I found it!
The very small file size they demand is not too good for photos compared to cartoon type graphics, but it will do---at least I've got Millie up there!
I will go & have a look at gmail but they are not as user friendly as Outlook---never thought I would ever say that! :D

Millie looks good. We can certainly tweak things. Within the max dimensions for avatars, what was the size of Millie's JPEG file?

I can't remember--I had a bit of a battle to reduce it from the original.
For some reason the size reduction website & this one disagreed on what it was, so I just kept reducing the number of pixels, till it was accepted.
It wasn't the most spectacular dog portrait to start with, so it will do!

Ohh, & I found the email ----gmail had it tucked away in a folder called "allmail".
It seemed to have never have appeared in the Inbox!

Arrived in spam here.

Not unusual if the sender doesn't have SPF / DKIM set up and is on an IP address at a VPS / hosting company that isn't one of the really huge ones. This is also why I don't run my own mail system any more. Also I am getting old and lazy :D

Yeah, Google and Microsoft make life hard to run a mail server, which is why I also don't host my own email, generally. Nevertheless, I do need my servers to email me notifications (which is also difficult to relay through big providers, especially Google), so I have SPF and DMARC set up correctly for them and it works fine, but no DKIM (yet). DKIM requires a lot more to set up, which I will probably have to if I'll be hosting this forum.

Meanwhile, mark the email as "not spam," which will help their algorithm learn that the IP is OK. It's already getting good SPF, but may need an additional nudge.

I do. Potentially makes a forum much more usable, since I can see what I might want to see.

just a question.

when i am lazy and do not log in, the "Main" and "Help and Admin" are visible but the "More" stuff is missing. is it supposed to do that?

not a problem if it is supposed to be that way. just wondering.
