I think that they could have made the die of the processor larger and used the same pins that they used on earlier processors which had stood the test of time?
Not mine. It's a well reported fault with Asus mb's and the LGA socket. It causes serious overheating and kills both mb and cpu
Oh, but those photos are of an AMD AM5 socket and AMD Ryzen processor?

Yep, Asus motherboard, with damaged/misaligned Land Grid Array pin/s, causing the Ryzen 9 cpu to sit askew, and overheat and burn the motherboard, killing them both.

From time to time, along with Hardware Unboxed, Tech Deals and a few others, every few years when I'm in the market for a new PC, or bit of PC hardware. The last time was about four years or five years back, when I bought the bits for a system based on an AMD 2600 and over a year later, when the market disruption was subsiding, and I built one based on an AMD 5600G. The 2600 system was just before Covid and the 5600G when things were settling down. It's interesting watching other people's enthusiasm and how things develop, but I'm not into AAA gaming, or professional video editing where time is money and Thread Rippers and the ultimate SSDs are the thing.

I do like Explaining Computers, which deals a lot with lower end stuff and single board computers.

I'll be having to carefully not damage the bloody pins myself, soon enough; bought a R5 9600X on sale, will probably go for a Gigabyte mb with the B850 chipset
