Just recorded a quick video to illustrate what I meant more clearly. Hopefully this links to it:

I notice that if I apply pressure back and forth, the upper half will shift slightly relative to the lower, and I'd imagine an impact with the floor on the corner would deflect things enough to cause breakage of the thin overlap.

Yeah, I bet my ass would fall apart too if I'd been picked up and dropped on my head as many times as that meter has...

Decided to compare the low current readings on the IBM Fluke to my HP 3440A meter while reforming some electrolytic caps.

Image

Image

I've compared the 3440A's current measurement to other Fluke handhelds in the past and it's been in good agreement, so I'm inclined to trust it. In this instance, the two meters agree within 0.3 uA with the IBM Fluke on its 2 mA range and the HP on its 1000 uA range - I'll take that! (Should have switched the fluke down to 200 uA, but had some brain flatulence and it slipped my mind - intended to start at the higher range then once I was sure it was in range switch down but got distracted taking pics. D'oh!)

I had my 8060As out today. Last night I was having coffee with a friend and we were catching up. I was telling him about someone at work who was telling me how he started long enough ago that he was given a company issue multimeter and he said it was a Fluke 8060A, to which I responded saying I have three of them including an IBM one. We had a good laugh at that. Anyways, this afternoon the friend asked if I could give him a hand changing out a piece of machinery at a building on the other side of town so we arranged to meet this evening to get it done - and to help out, I grabbed all three 8060A, some test lead sets, and an i1010 current clamp and put them in the truck after changing out the battery in one of them:

Image

I've never had good luck taking pictures of more than one of them together because at least one polarizer's always wrong, but they are all on and working in the pictures.

Image

And a family photo of all the drawbar Flukes. This is an interesting picture since there are three different colour schemes in that type of meter in one place.

I think my friend might be looking for an 8060A of his own. He fell in love with the truth table slide switch function selection on them. I was laughing about how you can tell it was designed by a digital engineer with the way that was done.

Nice family photo. I have one of the tan 8060 ones that needs a new display lurking about here somewhere, but it's hiding at the moment. Still on the lookout for one of the dark D80x units. LOL - we are a slightly warped lot here, huh? (Though I think people who collect massive amounts of sports memorabilia are nuts, so, to each his own I guess...)

Somehow I managed to pull off both.

The test equipment's going to stay but a lot of the football equipment's going to be given away or sold when the day I stop playing comes except for a couple of helmets as souvenirs of teams I've been on.

It is Friday and Fluke Friday, Episode 13 and we have a rare Fluke Multifunction Counter,
i did not know of its excistance until i found it. pretty cool device.
Seems they reused the case and screen from the Scopemeter series 90 and i get the impression its developed by Philips.

That's a seriously neat piece of equipment. I'll be keeping an eye out for one for sure.

Since it is Fluke Friday, did anyone spot the two Flukes lurking on the shelves behind the football equipment?

Edit: Three Flukes but two of them are admittedly pretty badly obscured.

I see the differential voltmeter on the shelf below the silver colored helmet in the second photo, but am not seeing the others you mention...

It's so hard to see and identify from what's visible but there's an 8300A multimeter behind the red helmet and a 7,000 VDC power supply/calibrator whose model number I can't remember offhand in the other picture with the shoulder pads on the shelf near the floor.

A week or so ago I was on everyone’s favorite cash depletion site, and on a whim searched “Fluke mug” and got a hit. It arrived today. Looks like they must have a case of them, as it shows 'more than 10 available'. $20 plus shipping.

Image

Not quite as cool as the HP mugs, or the transparent cobalt blue Tek one, but novel in its own way. I figured it might appeal to some here, and they do ship internationally. If interested, it’s listed as “NOS NEW 1998 FLUKE 50 YEAR ANNIVERSARY COFFEE MUG - FLUKE CALIBRATION MULTIMETER”.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-NEW-1998- ... ect=mobile

NAWTS other than I bought a mug from them. It was well packed.

For what it’s worth, it was VERY well packaged, unlike the other clown who literally shipped the mug in its tiny factory box with literally no cushioning. That said, after your experience with the HP mugs I can well understand your hesitancy.

Maybe we'll get lucky and the one of my pair that escaped my sleep-deprived packing-storm when I left the GWN will somehow make its way to a Thrift somewhere near him...

Fluke 867 and 867B , both not working on all function..sometime blank screen only grid, sometime wrong function,
i hope its just the switch otherwise it was an expensive yellow casing.
Both of them same problem, one from France , One from US.. (from US was nice because i had a lot of Import cost too...pfff)
but if you want them you want them.
Fluke867.JPEG

They are huge btw

Inspired by 25 CPS' recent handheld aquisition clueing me in to a series of Flukes I didn’t previously know existed, I put searches for D 80x meters into our favorite website-associated search engine. One recently got away before I saw the search notification that was emailed, so I began more frequently just randomly entering the search terms by hand every now and again when online, and as luck would have it hit upon a freshly listed one around a week ago, and snagged it. The new old meter arrived a few days ago and is in near pristine condition - shipped in its padded slip case with folded single page instruction sheet and a calibration certificate from 1984.

Image

Image

Quick checks of DC Voltage ranges and one of the resistance standards show it, at first brush at least, to be (unsurprising, given its manufacturer) bang on. I still need to wring out the AC ranges, and check more values of resistance, but have no reason to doubt it’ll be accurate in those areas too.
