Gee, is the UK gonna sink into the ocean with just the Tower of London showing above the surface?

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
No. London is very unfortunately placed from the point of view of inundation. That's why they have the Thames Barrier. There are many places much more happily positioned, such as the Malvern Hills, the Cotswolds, the Mendips, Snowdonia, and many others in the north of the country, all to which we could aggregate to and cling to life. Not a present danger IMHO. Earthquakes are not really a thing here. Now in California, it's different.
We also have tornadoes, I recall more per square mile than anywhere else, apart from the Netherlands. I saw one once. They are mainly ropes. Sometimes there are serious ones, but nothing like Kansas on a regular basis.

At the epicentre there were some chimneys toppled and cracks in walls. I don't believe there were injuries or collapsed buildings.

While lying in bed we felt the 7.8 in Kaikoura in 2016, 900km away which shifted the 2 main NZ landmasses 2+m closer together.

If it does, the surrounding buildings left sticking out of the water will, when viewed from the west, look like three knuckles.

Anyway, has it never occurred that the Malvern Hills, the Cotswolds, the Mendips, and Snowdonia, were not ooop North. We'd form a fifth column wearing flat 'ats to infiltrate and you'd be wondering what had happened, well before you could reach for your shooting irons.

1. Download yt-dlp from https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp -> downloads -> yt-dlp.exe (or whatever flavour for linux/mac)
2. run yt-dlp.exe URL from cmd/terminal where URL is the URL of the youtube video.
3. open the resulting file in your favourite media player.
Also works for other shit you don't want to sit through adverts or aren't allowed to see or don't want to give views or likes to.

Arguably yes.
The single one I have made is 1 minute long, movement is the entire point of it, and there is definitely no audio/video of me um-ing ah-ing nor picking my nose.
Oh. There is a vid of somone else's drains, shared privately with a relative
Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
I made a comment on the bench turd thread about YT but I should have posted it here really. Had a long and stressful day. A close-ish relative died today during surgery. He spent the last 6 months of his life watching YT shorts. Even short videos suck if there's enough of them to consume your soul. Also incidentally he died with a fuck load of money thrown into tanking Tesla after falling for all the marketing shite in the videos and with a rapidly devaluing Tesla parked outside he wasn't allowed to even drive.

Update on dead body. Some advice for people considering dropping dead, learned this week:
1. Make sure you leave passwords and account details around and make sure that they are actually right.
2. Cancel Adobe if you have it. It's harder to cancel it than your porn accounts.
3. Create a large box called "amazon shit that you bought that didn't work but got refunded and kept anyway" and stuff all that shit in it so we can just throw it away.
4. Write the word "backups" on the disk that actually contains the backups, not on all of them, including ones that aren't backups.
5. Make sure you delete all the conversations with your ex ex ex wife so your widow doesn't read them.
6. If you own an EV, don't leave it outside long enough to brick itself. Actually charge it up occasionally.
7. For fucks sake learn some personal hygiene and clean your phone occasionally. No one wants to have to get limescale off it.

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
I think that's a Tesla special. I don't know of other EVs that can brick themselves just from standing there for a relatively short time. Teslas lose at least 1% charge a day just sitting at the side of the road, even more if they are too hot or too cold.By contrast my PHEV with a much smaller battery loses 1% a week tops, if that. As your uncle discovered, let the charge on a Tesla run to 0% and they shutdown, revivable only by Tesla. So three months of no use under ideal conditions and your Tesla becomes a brick. Fucking brilliant design, not!
By contrast, in my PHEV I was going to install a new fuse for a permanent dash cam, so I ran the high voltage battery down to low charge (as is recommended if you're going to do electrical work on the car), isolated the high voltage battery, 12V lead acid and 48V LiIon stop start batteries. So I've then got a cold, dead car. Reverse all the isolations and it just comes back to normal. If I did somehow manage to let every battery in the thing go flat I could still (1) open the door with a mechanical key, (2) open the hood, (3) hook up a battery charger to get the car to boot and then (4) plug in the bulk charging (which will recharge the secondary batteries if necessary).
Yet another thing that indicates that Tesla really don't know anything about building cars.
Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
Spring is finally in full swing. The 2004 Civic is cleaned, detailed, and waxed ready for the Spring/Summer car shows. Right after photo was taken the cover was put back on. First show is Saturday, 11 May. In the meantime I try to drive it minimum once a week. Right behind it is Blondie's 2010 Accord. And in the far background on the lawn is those damn imported pest dandelions. Allegedly brought over by the Pilgrims on the Mayflower. Supposedly edible so be my guest.
Next Sunday (5 May) is Orange County Hamfest so I'll probably be mingling with the unwashed hobos.

I concur on all accounts. Also you can’t just jump it from another car. There is a secondary 12v battery but if that’s dead too it’s a brick. I did some reading though and this is not the case on newer Tesla vehicles though. 2018 vintage was stupid. Well more stupid anyway.Cerebus wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 6:46 pm

Re: Test Equipment Anonymous (TEA) : Discussion and Group Therapy Thread
There are plenty of issues with Tesla's and most pure EV's. Tesla's for instance use push buttons for door release from inside the car, battery dies for whatever reason, and you're inside the car, you are automatically going to reach for the push button in order to get out, nan nah not happening. You have to remember that they have extra mechanical linkage and levers for when that happens. Good luck remembering that when you are involved in such an incident, following an accident or heaven forbid a fire and the electric have failed. It also I believe prevents the door from being opened from outside, if not then the stupid handles confuse anyone not familiar with how they work. This aspect to be fair is also common with many high-end cars with flush door handles.
The rear doors of Tesla's do not come with mechanical door release systems as standard, and those that do, I understand requires the door card being removed to operate them, hmm, just how do you that when the card gets trapped between door and door frame?
Then there are some BEV's that have push buttons or card readers in the B pillar to unlock the doors from outside, and the most of the controls are done via the touch screen and even the speedo is located on the touch screen in the centre of the dash.
Surely operating controls on a central touch screen require the driver to look at what they are doing, thus making it as if not more dangerous than using a handheld mobile phone.

I think there'll be serious back peddling on the ICE ban. It's certainly looking very ambitious.
